May 27, 2014 - On May 23, a group of five undergraduate, International Development students from Australian Catholic University (ACU) visited USAID/Timor-Leste to learn more about the Mission’s work.  Lisa Whitley, Director of the Office of General Development, and Dennis Wesner, Director of the Office of Economic Growth, presented information on USAID’s health, democracy and governance, education, and agricultural development projects.  The presentation ignited a lively discussion with the visiting group of youth in which they were encouraged to think about the challenge of creating sustainable development.

Disseminating information to student groups helps familiarize the youth of tomorrow with USAID's partnerships with host governments and development objectives.  Such sessions also inspire young people to think deeper about development and encourage them to be part of this work in the future.

The ACU students visited Timor-Leste for one month as part of a practicum. While they were primarily in the country to work as part-time high school teachers as parts of their university curriculum, they expressed an interest in visiting USAID to learn more about the work of development professionals.
