USAID/Youth Engagement to Promote Stability

April 8, 2014 - USAID's Youth Engagement to Promote Stability project conducted a Civic Leadership Training earlier this month (1-3 April, 2014).  25 young people, including 13 women, all aged between 18-30 years, participated in the training from Manatuto, Baucau, Lautem and Viqueque districts.  This was the very first opportunity for many of these youth to learn creative problem-solving and effective communications skills as well as teamwork through an interactive learning process. Ursula Ramos Sousa Silva and Rosalia Octaviana Fatima Carceres Oliveira, teenagers from Manatuto, said that after participating in the training, they now know how to better identify problems and become good leaders to resolve those, which they can very well use in their own communities. Maria Maia do Rosario da Silva, a participant from Baucau, said that through this training, she has learnt that good leaders take care of their members and are open to ideas. She continued by saying that she could not wait to go back to her district and share what she had learnt in this three-day training with her friends, young women in particular.  USAID’s Youth Engagement to Promote Stability project is funded by the U.S. State Department’s 1207 Security and Stabilization Program.
