WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah will travel to Nigeria from January 17-18 where he will meet with senior government officials to further USAID’s collaboration with the government of Nigeria and will meet with leaders in Nigeria’s private sector to discuss new opportunities for partnerships that can accelerate growth and development.

On Thursday, January 17, Administrator Shah will be in Abuja, where he will meet with senior Nigerian government officials including Minister of Agriculture Akinwumi Adesina, Minister of Finance Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Health Christian Onyebuchi Chukwu and Minister of State for Health Muhammad Ali Pate. While there, Administrator Shah, Nigerian Central Bank Governor Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, will launch a new agreement that will result in increased private financing for the country’s agriculture sector. 

On Friday January 18, Administrator Shah will visit Lagos and have a townhall style discussion with young entrepreneurs and businesses leaders hosted by the Tony Elumelu Foundation.  In addition he will participate in roundtable discussions with Nigerian private sector leaders, youth entrepreneurs and energy sector representatives. Founded in 2010, The Tony Elumelu Foundation is an Africa-based and African-funded not-for-profit institution dedicated to the promotion and celebration of excellence in business leadership and entrepreneurship across Africa.
