WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) swore in Peter Malnak as its new Mission Director for Rwanda. In Rwanda, USAID's work supports health and education services for a fast-growing population, economic growth opportunities, agricultural production and food security, human rights and good governance, and environmental protection.

Malnak joined USAID in 1992 and is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Counselor. Prior to this assignment, he was Director of USAID’s Middle East Affairs Office, which manages 12 country programs, including Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Tunisia, the West Bank and Gaza.

He served in Sudan from 2008 to 2010 as Deputy Mission Director and USAID Principal Officer in Juba, South Sudan, prior to its independence. While in Sudan, he led an annual program in democracy, education, health, economic growth, infrastructure, and humanitarian assistance.

From 2003 to 2008, Malnak was Director of USAID/Jordan’s largest technical office, guiding programming and bilateral relations in the areas of education, workforce development, democracy and governance, and health. He spearheaded the computerization of Jordan’s 73 civil courts and 3,000 public schools.  Malnak began his career with USAID as a Private Sector Officer in Egypt and has also served in the West Bank and Gaza.  

He is a distinguished graduate of the National War College, holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Spanish Literature from Indiana University in Bloomington.
