WASHINGTON, D.C. – On November 3-6, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Senior Coordinator for Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment Susan Markham will travel to the West Bank and Israel. Her visit will focus on USAID’s development assistance to the Palestinians, specifically programs supporting gender integration and women’s empowerment, in the economic, democracy and governance, health and education sectors.
During her trip, Markham will meet with implementing partners, U.S. Government teams, local government officials and women leaders from business and non-governmental organizations to learn about the impact of USAID programs in the West Bank and continue to promote women’s empowerment. While in the West Bank, Markham will visit USAID projects supporting young women entrepreneurs as well as pilot projects to expand employment opportunities for female engineering and IT university graduates. She will also host meetings to discuss the operating environment and opportunities to integrate gender principles into all aspects of development programs in an effort to ensure women and girls have equal access to services and are active participants in the development of their societies.
