Design and Construction of Uruzgon Bridge

DATES: October 2009 - October 2011
PARTNERS: Louis Berger Group/Black & Veatch (LBG/B&V)

USAID is managing the construction of the 120-meter long Regak Bridge in Uruzgan Province. The U.S. military is funding the construction through resources from the Commander’s Emergency Response Program. The bridge is located in a remote area characterized by difficult, mountainous terrain. The project includes improvements to the road leading to the bridge. Completion of the bridge is expected to allow commerce to flow more freely and to enhance stability in this region. Because of an active Taliban presence in the area, the construction camp is located adjacent to a nearby forward operating base.
