BISHKEK, Kyrgyz Republic - The U.S. Agency for International Development is donating $100,000 worth of medical supplies to help hospitals that are treating victims of the April 7-8 civil unrest in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The medical supplies will be presented in an April 16 ceremony to the Bishkek City Trauma and Orthopedics Scientific and Research Center. The donation was procured by USAID's grantee CitiHope International.

The donation includes bandages, syringes, various surgical supplies, and other materials used for emergency treatment of patients. The medical supplies will be delivered to a total of 10 hospitals in Bishkek City as well as to Chui, Naryn, and Talas provinces.

USAID is donating medical supplies at the request of Kyrgyz Republic's Ministry of Health and it is based on the needs of the local hospitals.

The donation ceremony will be attended by USAID's Country Director Pat Shapiro, U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Tatiana C. Gfoeller, Kyrgyzstan's Acting Minister of Health Damira Niyazalieva, Deputy Minister of Health Madamin Karataev, and Bishkek City Trauma and Orthopedics Scientific and Research Center's Director Sabyrbek Djumabekov.
