For Immediate Release
Administrator Rajiv Shah will host an event Wednesday, Sept. 26, highlighting the progress USAID is making with international partners toward meeting the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
USAID is co-hosting the event with its British counterpart, the Department for International Development (DFID), to highlight the role the two agencies play in meeting global MDG targets.
Dr. Rajiv Shah and the UK’s new Secretary of State for International Development Justine Greening will host “MDG Countdown: Working Together Towards 2015” – which will feature innovators from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Horn of Africa, India, Indonesia, Rwanda and Zambia. Representatives from the field will describe in their own words, either in person or via video, how the MDG targets are being achieved through innovative projects and programs around the world.
After their opening remarks, Laura Trevelyan, BBC correspondent, will introduce and moderate interviews with representatives from the featured projects and programs. Following these interviews and presentations, UN Special Advisor on Post-2015 Development Planning Amina Mohammed will offer her perspectives on MDG progress. The floor will then open for remarks from the audience.
