WASHINGTON, D.C. - United States Agency for International Development Assistant Administrator for Democracy, Conflict, & Humanitarian Assistance Nancy Lindborg is traveling to Amman, Jordan August 18-21 for meetings and site visits focused on U.S. efforts to assist those affected by Syria’s escalating humanitarian crisis. While in Jordan, she will meet with local implementing partners, U.S. government teams, and Jordanian government officials. She will also visit USAID programs in Jordan that are working to alleviate pressures on Jordanian communities as a result of the crisis.

Assistant Administrator Lindborg’s visit follows President Obama’s recent announcement of an additional $195 million in humanitarian assistance for the Syria crisis, bringing the total U.S. response to more than $1 billion.

USAID has provided approximately $560 million in development assistance for Jordan in FY 2013. In addition, the United States Government is supporting Jordan with a $1.25 billion loan guarantee. The loan guarantee will make it easier for the Government of Jordan to borrow money from international capital markets and provide critical services to its citizens as it enacts economic reforms while also hosting more than half a million refugees fleeing the violence inside Syria.

As Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) at USAID, Nancy Lindborg leads the Agency’s efforts in crisis prevention, response, and recovery as well as democratic transitions.
