WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Friday, October 14, USAID Administrator Raj Shah heads to Atlanta, Georgia to meet with leaders from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and to give a speech at Morehouse College.

Administrator Shah will meet with CDC Director Thomas R. Frieden and CDCs staff to highlight the importance of CDC and USAID working together closely to achieve the goals set out in President Obama's Global Health Initiative. Dr. Shah will announce the "Advancing Global Health: CDC-USAID Partnership". This interagency agreement will forge a new era of collaboration between USAID and CDC. With roughly $44.6 million in FY2011 funding, and its established process for future support, the "Advancing Global Health: CDC-USAID Partnership" helps ensure CDC's expertise in such areas as epidemiology, surveillance, and laboratories is leveraged to achieve the health goals outlined in President Obama's Global Health Initiative. In his remarks at Morehouse College, Dr. Shah will talk about global development and highlight USAID's 50th anniversary, which is being commemorated this year. He will also highlight the Agency's "FWD Campaign" as a way for students and faculty to learn about the famine in the Horn of Africa, and to support relief efforts.

At the conclusion of his speech at Morehouse College, Dr. Shah will present USAID's 10th Anniversary Private Sector Development Partner Award to The Coca-Cola Company. Coca-Cola Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Muhtar Kent will accept the award. This partnership between USAID and Coca-Cola showcases the potential of the U.S. Government to partner with the private sector to make a long-term impact on pressing global challenges.
