Washington, D.C. - Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah travels to India as part of President Obama's delegation to promote the U.S.-India strategic partnership. Development cooperation forms an important part of their agenda.

The relationship between the world's oldest democracy and the world's largest is among the most lasting and vital partnerships America currently enjoys. USAID and India have a long history together. For nearly 60 years, the U.S. government, through USAID, has supported India's development. Over that time, USAID's assistance has evolved from humanitarian aid, to infrastructure development and institution-building, to support for economic reforms.

Most recently, USAID and its Indian partners have joined together to achieve breakthrough innovations that improve the lives of more and more people - with benefits not just for India and the United States, but countries around the world.
