WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Thomas O. Melia will travel to Ukraine and Moldova from September 13-21, 2016.
In Ukraine, Mr. Melia will meet with government officials, civil society activists and business leaders to discuss how U.S. assistance is responding to each country's development and economic challenges, including humanitarian support for Ukraine. Meetings will focus on support for strengthening democratic governance, fighting corruption and implementing economic reforms as central elements of a robust, diversified economy. Mr. Melia will also participate in the Yalta European Strategy annual meeting.
In Moldova, he will meet with private sector and civil society leaders, as well as high-level government officials to congratulate them on recently passed judicial and economic reforms and encourage expeditious implementation. Mr. Melia will also reaffirm the U.S. government's support of a free, fair, and transparent process for the upcoming presidential elections.
