WASHINGTON, D.C. - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's first foreign trip involved several Asian countries and also included a site visit to a USAID project in Indonesia. During the day she spent in Jakarta, she met with the President, Prime Minister and Secretary General for ASEAN. As part of her ongoing dialogue with Indonesian counterparts, she repeatedly emphasized the need for cooperation and the importance of development.
As these photos suggest, one highlight of the Secretary's trip was her visit to an urban program site in the Petojo residential area of central Jakarta, providing an opportunity to see at first hand USAID programs focused on water, health and the environment. While in Indonesia, she made several references to her last visit to that country--a trip which also featured a USAID site visit, on that occasion related to USAID-funded health programs in Yogyakarta.
