WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is extraordinarily pleased to earn an A+ on the federal government’s small business scorecard.  Only three agencies were granted the highest grade on the FY 2014 Federal Procurement Scorecard. USAID prioritizes collaboration with small businesses to increase innovation and provide new approaches to accomplishing development objectives.
USAID’s A+ grade is the culmination of several years of hard work to implement our comprehensive procurement reform strategy. One of its objectives is to increase competition and expand the use of small business concerns as prime contractors on direct and Indefinite Delivery-Indefinite Quantity awards.  Our success with this objective in FY2014 allowed the Agency to increase its dollars and percentages obligated in all four of the goals achieved.  In FY 2014, USAID obligated almost 21% of our domestic contract dollar obligations to small businesses, significantly exceeding our 12.3% goal.  The overall small business; small disadvantaged; women owned; and service disabled veteran owned small business goals were all met and exceeded.
In FY 2015 the Agency will strengthen its efforts to increase overall awards to small businesses with a special emphasis on attracting more firms in the HUBZone programs.  To that end, the Agency is focusing on attending and coordinating events specifically directed to the Hubzone community.
“As we partner to end extreme poverty and promote resilient democratic societies, I encourage USAID to work with our country’s small businesses to energize our economy and create a more secure and prosperous future for all,” said USAID Acting Administrator Ambassador Alfonso E. Lenhardt.
