Acting Deputy Mission Director Paul Vaca joined Kosovo’s Department Chief for Agricultural Policies Arsim Memaj to celebrate World Milk Day on June 1st in downtown Pristina.  They met with domestic dairy producers displaying their fresh products at the event, which was organized as part of the Fresh Milk Promotion Campaign, and in cooperation with the Kosovo Association of Dairy Producers (KAMP).  The Fresh Milk Promotion Campaign is implemented by USAID’s Agricultural Growth and Rural Opportunities  program, and is designed to raise awareness among local consumers of the quality of local fresh milk and to promote wider consumption of fresh milk in Kosovo. The AGRO program’s assistance to the Kosovo dairy industry targets every link in the dairy value chain, from farm to table, and works hard to increase the quality and safety standards of Kosovo’s raw milk as well.  These improvements have raised the profile of Kosovo’s finished dairy products, but more work remains to be done to increase the awareness of, and domestic market share for, Kosovo’s locally-produced dairy—particularly given that 90 percent of the fluid milk consumed in Kosovo is imported.
