The program was designed to increase the strength and breadth of cooperation and linkages between Pakistani scientists and institutions and their counterparts in the United States; improve the quality, relevance, or capacity of education and research at Pakistani institutions of science and technology; and improve the well-being of ordinary Pakistani people through innovations in science and technology. Both countries contribute funds to support joint projects that enhance the science and technology community's ability to positively contribute to the human and economic development of Pakistan.
Objectives
The U.S.-Pakistan Science and Technology Cooperation Program is intended to increase the strength and breadth of cooperation and linkages between Pakistani scientists and institutions and their counterparts in the United States; improve the quality, relevance, or capacity of education and research at Pakistani institutions of science and technology; and improve the well-being of ordinary Pakistani people through innovations in science and technology. Its objectives are as follows:
1. Enhance the ability of the science and technology community to spur human and economic development in Pakistan;
2. Improve the quality, relevance, and capacity of education and research at Pakistani institutions of higher education in science and technical fields; and
3. Improve the capacity of Pakistani research institutions to support industry competitiveness.
- Facilitate linkages between Pakistani and U.S. universities and research institutions through science and technology research projects, publications, and presentations.
- Expand science and technology curricula at Pakistani universities.
- Provide training in research and information technology skills.
- Organize exchange visits by Pakistani scholars and researchers to the United States.
