Diamer Basha Dam Project

USAID is supporting the Government of Pakistan by conducting comprehensive environmental, technical, and financial assessments to pave the way for financing and building the Diamer Basha Dam, a large hydroelectric facility.
 
Objectives
 
The main objective of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) is to carry out all necessary preparatory studies, field work, and other research to help ensure the Diamer Basha Dam will be financially viable. 
 
Main Activities
  • Scoping Exercise to determine the issues to be thoroughly analyzed in the ESIA
  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Resettlement, Land Acquisition and Compensation Action Plan
  • Climate Change Impact Assessment to review trends in annual and seasonal water flow in the Indus River over the past several decades, and to forecast changes in water flows as a result of climate change and global warming
  • Indigenous Peoples Plan
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for Socioeconomic Impacts
  • Cultural Heritage Preservation Plan
