WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Associate Administrator Eric Postel and Chief Strategy Officer Carla Koppell will deliver remarks at the "Women and Countering Violent Extremism: Strengthening Policy Responses and Ensuring Inclusivity" forum. The event is co-sponsored by USAID, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Institute of Peace

The program will provide an opportunity for discussion on the upcoming series of conferences and meetings that will frame the future of women in security and peacebuilding worldwide.  These include a ministerial-level meeting on countering violent extremism to be held during the UN General Assembly session in September, as well as, a ministerial session on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325.  This event will assist in gathering best practices to inform policy related deliverables for both conferences and will be led by experts from civil society, the United Nations, academia and the U.S. government.

History has shown women can play critical roles in developing responses to violent extremism and terrorism, as well as, challenging and delegitimizing violent extremist narratives. They can serve as powerful agents of change; and can assist in detecting early signs of radicalization and intervene before individuals become violent.
