LIBERIA ELECTIONS AND POLITICAL TRANSITIONS PROJECT (pdf - 279k)
To provide support for the upcoming 2017 General Elections, including presidential and legislative polls. This program works to strengthen local capacity to effectively manage, observe, and engage in election processes by providing technical assistance to Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC) and civil society organizations (CSOs). Specific objectives include the following:
- Increase the capacity of the NEC to manage the full election cycle
- Promote meaningful CSOs engagement in election processes
Current Activities/Accomplishments to Date
- The NEC revised its six-year strategic plan (2012-2018) to reflect changing realities of the electoral environment
- The NEC developed an external communications strategy to promote engagement with voters in advance of 2017.
- The NEC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with registered political parties and has been engaging with political parties for information sharing and coordination.
- The Election Coordinating Committee (ECC) developed a strategic plan for long-term and short-term domestic observation missions.
