BEYOND THE GRID PROGRAM

BTG seeks to strengthen the capacity of the :iberia Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) to plan, design, evaluate, and oversee implementation of rural electrification projects in Liberia. BTG will develop all of the standards, methodologies and procedures required for RREA to liaise with service providers and cooperatives that will be formed under the new 2015 Liberia Electricity Law.  

Current Activities

  • Strengthening RREA institutional capacity to build expertise in planning, financial management, technology expertise, project management, and program management.
  • Developing RREA operations guidelines that will govern the process of project identification, preparation, and special studies.
  • Providing project implementation and oversight support to former Liberia Energy Sector Support Program (LESSP)-financed projects, namely: Gbarnway, Kwendin and Sorlumba renewable energy projects.
  • Providing knowledge and training services with focus on  developing a training program and curricula for both RREA and future RREA-sponsored service providers as well as consultants and construction contractors.
  • Promoting use of demographic data collected during the project preparatory process to identify economic activities that can be enhanced through improved energy service, and designing financial and technical assistance activities to support these activities. 
  • Providing construction supervision and technical assiatcne for the Mein River Hydropower Project.
