Marking International Day of the Girl Child
USAID

Charge d’Affaires Colleen Hyland spoke at an event marking the International Day of the Girl Child. This year’s theme was #DadsandDaughters, with a focus  on gender equality within families, specifically related to inheritance and property rights. In her remarks, CDA Hyland highlighted the challenges that women in Kosovo face in owning and inheriting property, and the effect of women’s economic exclusion on the economy as a whole.

Deputy Prime Minister Kuci joined CDA Hyland in addressing the audience.

In 2011 October 11 was chosen by UN as the day to celebrate girls, since than USAID has organized events to mark the day always emphasizing the importance of girls education.

The #DadsandDaughters event was organized by the USAID Property Rights Program, an initiative aiming to improve the legal framework and institutional practices and procedures governing property rights, with a special focus on women’s property rights.
