The second annual Municipal Competitiveness Index Survey conducted by the USAID Business Enabling Environment Program www.usaidbeep.org found that most municipalities had taken to heart the results of last year’s survey and undertaken reforms. The result is higher scores this year for most municipalities in Kosovo. The survey measures to what degree local business regulations and procedures enable businesses to get established and flourish. At an awards ceremony for the top performers and most improved municipalities, USAID/Kosovo Mission Director Maureen A. Shauket said the survey “has made municipal officials much more aware of how their policies can affect their communities` prospects for prosperity.” Following the first such survey in 2011, USAID worked with municipalities to address problems that survey respondents had identified. That effort is reflected in the improved scores in the 2012 survey.
