Today, U.S. Ambassador, Dan Mozena, announced a three-year, $200,000 USAID-funded program to expand the use of communication and information programs to improve health in Bangladesh. A key component of this program is a series of biweekly television episodes on public health issues called Jiboner Golpo (“Life Stories”) which will be aired on Desh TV starting from June 29, every alternate Saturday from 8:00pm.

On Sunday, July 21st, the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) committed to ending preventable child deaths in the country before 2035. This commitment builds on the impressive progress that Bangladesh has made in reducing maternal and child mortality and improving the health and wellbeing of mothers and children over the past 40 years.

Officials from the United States and Bangladesh governments, NGO representatives, labor associations and other civil society institutions attended the National Conference on Bangladesh’s 2012 Trafficking in Persons Law and National Plan of Action to Combat Human Trafficking 2012-2014 today. The conference was organized to accelerate the fight against human trafficking in Bangladesh and to commit to specific actions to improve the implementation of Bangladesh’s anti-trafficking legal framework.

Mushfiqur Rahim, the captain of Bangladesh’s national cricket team, visited the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)’s health project – MaMoni – in Habiganj today. As a USAID brand ambassador, Mushfiqur promotes health awareness messages across the country, focusing on mothers and young children.
