The new bridge will improve daily communication and school attendance for more than 40 families in the Surra community.

SHABRAN – On December 14, residents of the Surra community of Shabran rayon gathered to mark the successful completion of the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Davachi River. They were joined by representatives of the local ExCom and the municipality, officials from the Ministry of Economy and Industry (MEI), and U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert F. Cekuta. The bridge was constructed by a local NGO, UMID, and co-financed by the governments of the United States and Azerbaijan.

7 December 2015, BAKU – U.S. Ambassador Robert Cekuta and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Antonius Broek  signed a declaration of intentions to launch the “Economic Empowerment for Entrepreneurship and Employment”  project, with a total budget of $342,000.

SABIRABAD – On October 2, residents of the Akhiskha community of Sabirabad rayon, representatives of the local ExCom and the municipality, officials from the Ministry of Economy and Industry (MEI), U.S. Embassy and the United State Agency for International Development (USAID) gathered to mark the successful completion of the renovation of a kindergarten.

BAKU - Ms. Mikaela Meredith assumed her position as the new Mission Director for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Azerbaijan.

Prior to being named Mission Director, Ms. Meredith served in three senior leadership roles in Washington, DC. Her 25 year career with USAID included assignments in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe.
