Head of USAID Armenia Karen Hilliard and her team joined local and international partners on December 16 to mark the opening of the new Citizen Office in Tumanian, Lori.

The delegation first visited the Marts municipality in Lori for a presentation of the Municipal Management Information System (MMIS). The system was developed for local government bodies as part of the Territorial and Administrative Reform in Armenia. MMIS will help automate and improve the information flow within and among the municipalities, promote accountability and transparency towards citizens, and speed up the provision of administrative services. Citizens can now receive these services online, track their delivery and even address specialists on particular issues.

Following Marts, partners headed to Tumanian for the opening of the Citizen Office. The office, equipped with the MMIS, will help increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the local administration, as citizens of Tumanian and the neighboring settlements will now receive information and assistance at one single location.

The Citizen Office is established in the framework of the “Local Governance Programme South Caucasus” implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. The program in Armenia is implemented in partnership with the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations and is co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
