HANOI, September 28, 2017 -- Today the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched Phase II of the Building Resilience to Natural Hazards in Central Vietnam project.   Phase II will be implemented by the American Red Cross with five Consortium members:  Vietnam Red Cross, Plan International, HelpAge International, Catholic Relief Services, and Save the Children.

With a grant of $1.54 million, Phase II is expected to benefit 37,000 people directly and 200,000 people indirectly in the four target provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Quang Tri by helping them be better prepared for natural disasters.  Phase II will utilize a community-based approach to help communities increase their resilience against disasters.  Consortium Partners will continue to provide support for the improvement of early warning systems, raise disaster preparedness awareness, and conduct trainings on first aid and search and rescue.

Today, the U.S. Embassy, in cooperation its Vietnamese government partners, held a signature event entitled “Advancing Prosperity: Twenty Years of U.S.-Vietnam Development Cooperation,” to highlight key achievements since the normalization of the diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1995 and outline the agenda for future cooperation.

On Earth Day today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the U.S. National Geographic Society, the Smithsonian Institution, and the wildlife trade monitoring network TRAFFIC, will launch the Wildlife Crime Tech Challenge to reward innovative science and technology solutions that help combat wildlife trafficking. This global competition will award four prizes of up to $500,000 for innovative science and technology solutions to fight this increasingly serious crime.

Results from a recent research study on land rights were released last week at a workshop in Hanoi. The workshop also introduced the Vietnam Land Access for Women program, through which the survey was conducted in two provinces. The LAW project is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) and the Institute for Social Development Studies (ISDS).

HANOI, March 10, 2015 -- The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched the Emerging Pandemic Threats 2 (EPT-2) program to support efforts in Vietnam to better prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats. This program is closely aligned with the key objectives of the governments’ partnership on the Global Health Security Agenda and Vietnam’s adoption of the International Health Regulations.
