I want to thank Chairman Payne for his longstanding commitment to health and recognize our distinguished guests from the African Union and the African Diplomatic Corps. Thank you for coming and for organizing this event with the Global Health Council, Save the Children, and the US Coalition for Child Survival.

To the women and men of the U.S. Agency for International Development - thank you for all you do to promote the interests of our country while working to build a better world. You have my continued commitment to work in Congress to advance and invest in your mission and your success.

Salaam Alaikum. Minister Farhang, Judge Baha, Mr. Zakhiwal, Mr. Haqju, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the United States Government, I am honored to be a part of this important event that will help bring greater prosperity and economic independence to  Afghanistan.

Your Excellencies, Ambassador Roshan, the faculty and students of ATVI, business owners and managers, and international colleagues.  I am honored to be with you here today to launch the first ATVI Job Fair that will help lay the foundation for a vibrant Afghan workforce.  I applaud your efforts and heartily congratulate the graduates.  It is particularly n oteworthy that this building was built 40 years ago with my government’s help, so it’s good to see it is being put to good use again.
