Today, USAID released the third annual Acting on the Call report, which details how a renewed focus on the poorest 40% of the population can save the lives of 8 million women and children by 2020. The report also announces Burma as the twenty fifth priority country for USAID's effort to end preventable child and maternal death.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) recently announced a Legacy Fellowship program at a ceremony honoring Anita Datar and other fallen staff of USAID's Implementing Partners. In partnership with Palladium, USAID will host the inaugural Legacy Fellows as a tribute to Anita Datar who tragically died in the line of duty while furthering the work of Palladium and USAID's mission in Mali in November 2015.

Today, Tunisia signed a loan guarantee agreement with the United States that will allow Tunisia to access up to $500 million in affordable financing from international capital markets, delivering on President Obama's discussions with Tunisian President Caid Essebsi in May 2015.  The loan guarantee underscores the United States' enduring commitment to the people of Tunisia and their democratic transition.  It is designed to support Tunisia as it pursues important economic reforms that will provide the foundation for growth and prosperity, while also furthering Tunisia's ability to access global capital markets.

U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Gayle Smith announced at USAID's first-ever Ag Innovation Investment Summit this week the launch of two new open competitions for entrepreneurs with promising, innovative solutions to food insecurity in Latin America, the Caribbean and Zambia. Winners of the competitions will receive funding and mentoring from the U.S. Government's Feed the Future initiative to pilot, market and scale their proven solutions to benefit smallholder farmers in developing countries. Feed the Future will invest up to $5.75 million through these two competitions.
