The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is pleased to announce the launch of the new United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Providing Universal Services for HIV/AIDS (PUSH) Project in Lesotho. This five-year, $62 million dollar program will provide resources to dramatically expand comprehensive and integrated HIV/AIDS care and treatment services to children and adults affected by HIV. Utilizing a prioritized district approach, the project aims to rapidly expand service coverage to 80 percent of people living with HIV in three scale-up districts by 2018, while sustaining services across a total of six districts in the country, further advancing Lesotho’s HIV response towards achieving universal treatment coverage.
The USAID Tuberculosis South Africa Project (TBSAP) − collaboratively implemented with the South Africa National Department of Health − will host the Durban TB Fun Walk on July 15th 2016 in Durban Central. The walk will highlight the seriousness of the TB burden in South Africa, as well as notable interventions in place to respond to the epidemic. The event takes place the day before the start of the two-day International TB Conference (TB2016), which commences on 16 July at the Inkosi Albert Lithuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC).
The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Bernard Haufiku, together with the United States Ambassador to Namibia, Thomas Daughton, launched a new web-based computer system to manage medicine stocks countrywide, at Windhoek’s Central Hospital on 23 June 2016. This so-called “Pharmaceutical Information Dashboard” can monitor and track in real-time the availability of essential medicines, vaccines or any other clinical consumable at clinics and hospitals all over Namibia.

The South Africa Department of Science and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Global Development Lab, the newest bureau within USAID, to support the growing partnership between South Africa and the United States in using science, technology and innovation as important tools for advancing development. The signing ceremony was held during the USAID Global Science, Technology, Innovation and Partnership Summit at the USAID/Southern Africa headquarters in Pretoria.
