The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Gayle Smith will travel to Nairobi, Kenya, from September 6 to 8 to participate in the 10th African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF). Administrator Smith will lead a U.S. delegation, which includes Feed the Future Deputy Coordinator for Development and USAID Bureau for Food Security Assistant to the Administrator Beth Dunford, to the event and participate in meetings with leaders from foreign governments, NGOs, the business community, and the media.

The U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) U.S. Global Development Lab today announced more than $10 million for 49 new research partnerships to address critical areas of development. Funded through the Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program, the individual projects will address gaps in scientific knowledge ranging from disaster preparedness to maternal and child health to food security.

Today, Power Africa announced a new partnership arrangement with the Government of Japan focused on reducing energy poverty and increasing access to sustainable energy in sub-Saharan Africa. The Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between the United States and Japan -- signed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) -- includes commitments to share strengths, expertise and resources in an effort to accelerate access to renewable energy in Africa.

United States Announces Nearly $138 Million in Additional Humanitarian Assistance for South Sudan

Secretary of State John Kerry announced nearly $138 million in additional humanitarian assistance to help the South Sudanese people who have suffered through almost three years of brutal fighting. This additional funding brings the total U.S. humanitarian contribution to more than $1.7 billion since the conflict began in December 2013.

The U.S. Agency for International Development announced $127 million in additional humanitarian and recovery assistance to people affected by severe drought in Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Madagascar, Lesotho, and Swaziland. With this announcement, the United States has provided nearly $300 million in humanitarian assistance to the region. In addition, the United States has also provided development investments to mitigate the drought's impacts and build resilience in Southern Africa.

Today's White House Summit on Global Development celebrated a milestone in the U.S. Government's commitment to ending global hunger, poverty and child malnutrition. Earlier this month, Congress passed the Global Food Security Act, important bipartisan legislation that institutionalizes Feed the Future, the Obama Administration's successful approach to increasing food security and nutrition. Through Feed the Future, the U.S. Government is working to increase the incomes, nutrition and resilience of small-scale farmers, particularly women, by expanding farmers' access to local and international markets. President Obama signed the bill into law today.

 Members of the press are invited to attend and cover the White House Summit on Global Development and President Obama's speech on July 20 in Washington, D.C. The Summit will bring together development leaders, public and private sector partners, civil society, diplomats, and entrepreneurs to discuss the progress achieved by the Administration's approach to development and chart a course forward to continue the progress in the years ahead. There will be a series of panel discussions throughout the day that highlight President Obama's global development initiatives. Strive Masiyiwa will introduce President Obama, who is expected to speak at the summit.

The five-year, $62 million dollar project will expand and improve comprehensive and integrated HIV/AIDS care and treatment services in six districts

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is pleased to announce the launch of the new United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Providing Universal Services for HIV/AIDS (PUSH) Project in Lesotho.  This five-year, $62 million dollar program will provide resources to dramatically expand comprehensive and integrated HIV/AIDS care and treatment services to children and adults affected by HIV. Utilizing a prioritized district approach, the project aims to rapidly expand service coverage to 80 percent of people living with HIV in three scale-up districts by 2018, while sustaining services across a total of six districts in the country, further advancing Lesotho’s HIV response towards achieving universal treatment coverage.
