“I am so happy that we have our own girl’s school now,” said Ayesha Farooq, a grade 4 student at the new school that was built in Fateh Jang City of Attock District, Punjab Province by the Tameer-e-Millat Foundation. Financing for the school was provided by the U.S. Ambassador’s Fund. 

 

Until recently, Fateh Jang only had two government high schools – one for boys and one for girls – for its 40,000 residents. The two schools could not accommodate all the children seeking education in the area.

To offer additional opportunities for education to the local children, Tameer-e-Millat Foundation established a Model School for Girls (TMMSG), however, the facility needed computer and science labs as well as additional space to ensure that children receive good education.  

 

The foundation applied for a grant from the U.S. Ambassador’s Fund and received $233,522 to fund construction of two floors for the school. Using the grant, the foundation built 14 new class-rooms and four halls and established science and computer labs for older students by the middle of 2012.  The school now has 2,870 square feet of space.

 

Within six months of its completion, the enrollment of the school has increased from 250 to 330 students, and the teachers expect that the enrollment will continue expanding each year.  “I will study hard become a doctor, and help all the poor people of my country free of charge,” says Aysha Farooq.
