To celebrate Pan African Women's Day, the United States Mission to the African Union wanted to honor the tremendous achievements of Pan-African women by acknowledging the many unsung heroes who have helped to make families stronger, communities more prosperous, governments more accountable, and nations more secure. Pan-African Women's Day is held annually across the world to celebrate the first Pan-African Women's Conference and the creation of the Pan-African Women's Organization (PAWO) in 1962 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
