The 21st International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016) will be held in Durban, South Africa from July 18-22, 2016. The conference will bring together HIV experts from around the world to share knowledge, build partnerships and advance a clear agenda to reinvigorate the response to HIV and AIDS around the world.
More than a decade after Nelson Mandela addressed the 13th International AIDS Conference, HIV experts are returning to Durban, South Africa to discuss how to end AIDS. With the theme of “Access Equity Rights Now,” this year’s conference will focus on ensuring that all people receive care and treatment without discrimination and supporting country ownership for sustainable programs. Conference participants will also learn how to use prevention tools that address vulnerable populations.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will have a significant presence at AIDS 2016. For 30 years, USAID has been an integral catalyst in advancing progress in the prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS. At this year’s conference, USAID will cover topics from reducing stigma among people living with HIV and sex workers to optimizing multi-month scripting of antiretroviral therapy in order to eradicate AIDS and ensure that it is no longer a public health threat.
