New Delhi, India – In an effort to strengthen commercial and economic ties between Afghanistan and India through trade and investment, the Governments of India and Afghanistan, along with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), opened the first “Passage to Prosperity: India-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Show”. The event brings together more than 200 representatives from Afghan companies and more than 800 Indian participants to forge new business connections and discuss potential investment opportunities.

The eighth Career Development Center was opened under USAID’s Afghanistan University Support and Workforce Development Program on Monday. This newest center is located at Shaheed Rabbani Education University in Kabul.

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The U. S. Government provided $80 million to Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund as part of the ongoing commitment to improve the welfare of the Afghan people through the New Development Partnership. Release of the money is tied to the Afghan government’s achievement of specific development results and implementation of key policy reforms, including improved revenue collection, reducing corruption and reducing poverty by helping the poor and marginalized, especially women.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) formally adopted Afghanistan’s terms of accession into the renowned multilateral trading organization at the WTO's 10th Ministerial Conference on December 17 in Nairobi, Kenya. Afghanistan will have until June 2016 to ratify the deal and formally become WTO’s 164th Member, joining a global trading organization that accounts for about 95 percent of the world’s commerce.

 At the conclusion of a two-day national conference sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Strong Hubs for Afghan Hope and Resilience (SHAHAR) program on December 7 and 8, 2015, the mayors of Afghanistan’s 33 provincial capital municipalities took a giant step forward in their effort to professionalize and strengthen the capacity of municipal government in Afghanistan.

To commemorate the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign and International Human Rights Day, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Health Organization (WHO) announced a partnership to strengthen the health sector’s ability to identify and treat survivors of gender-based violence in Afghanistan.

Afghan government officials, joined by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), recognized the importance of women in the agriculture sector during a two-day conference. The purpose of the conference was to explore means to strengthen women’s contributions in each stage of value-added processes – from the farm to market and ultimately to consumer.

The United States Ambassador P. Michael McKinley and the Director of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Directorate of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Mr. Ahmad Zia Sayed Khaili, recognized 34 Afghan small and medium enterprises that successfully completed investment partnerships with the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Assistance in Building Afghanistan by Developing Enterprise (ABADE) program.
