KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- Mr. David Murdock, owner and CEO of Dole Foods Company, met with President Karzai on April 23 to announce his intention to explore a major Dole presence in Afghanistan. Mr. Murdock came to Afghanistan at the request of President Bush and visited the area aground Bagram and Mazar-e-Sharif, as well as a U.S.-sponsored Agricultural Fair, the first of its kind held in many years in the country.

JALALABAD, AFGHANISTAN- Today, the USAID Alternative Livelihoods Program for the Eastern Region (ALP/E) holds a ground-breaking ceremony of a new, US$1.5 million infrastructure project—the improvement of Kama Road, from Kama Bridge to Sangar Saray. Nangarhar’s Governor Shairzai (or Deputy Governor), other provincial and district authorities, and representatives of Nangarhar Provincial and Kama District Shuras are expected to attend the event at Nawabad in Kama district.

AFGHANISTAN- Tuesday, February 13, 2007, Mr. James Kunder, Acting Deputy Administrator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), presented two 86 volume hard bound sets of all the Official Gazettes of the Government of Afghanistan dating back to 1964 to the National Assembly Library. Decades of war left libraries and government institutions lacking a comprehensive compilation of the laws of Afghanistan. This collection of Afghan legal documents was published by the Ministry of Justice with support from USAID.
