The new Provincial Administration Building was officially opened in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar Province, on December 14. The new modern facility accommodates the offices for ministry directors and other provincial managers.
The two-floor Administration Building is large enough to accommodate the ministerial directors and their staff with 40 offices and a meeting area. The building will provide the Kunar government with adequate space as it expand its development activities in the province and coordinates the activities of foreign donors, NGO representatives, and law enforcement agencies. The building centralizes the offices of provincial officials and provides necessary meeting space in an accessible location next to the Governor’s office in central Asadabad.
“This building is a statement to the people of the province that the government is serious about development,” Ahmed Mukhtar, the governor’s chief of staff, commented.
USAID has funded five similar buildings in Kunar’s district centers, with the aim of strengthening district governments. These buildings are part of a wide range of US Government efforts in partnership with the Government of Afghanistan, to improve the lives of the people in Kunar. The Provincial Administration Building in Asadabad was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Other USAID projects in Kunar include irrigation canal improvement, construction of schools and clinics, employment programs, and the Jalalabad-Asmar Road.
